Marc Madness

Greetings friends, lovers, and others.

Day 2 of social distancing: 3 bottles of wine in, putting on my best looks, pretending everything is fine.

On March 15th, 1969, Marc Bolan released a book of poetry: The Warlock of Love (which is honestly what I want to be called by everyone from now on). On March 16th, 2020, I’m releasing a blog post which will be the first of an (incredibly inconsistent) series: Marc Bolan Monday, taking a look at the style and unattainable hair quality of T. Rex’s iconic frontman.

One of my absolute favorite looks is from a 1973 shoot featuring a sequined jacket from Biba, a fashion boutique that defined the swinging 60s in London before closing in 1975. (I’m still in mourning.)

1972, filming Born to Boogie

“I was born in the wrong generation” is a boring cliche, but until the men of my generation begin wearing leopard print sequined jackets, I stand by it.

Glitter goals

A major problem with fashion today is that we’re so obsessed with “the rules”. Glam and glitter is reserved for Halloween and holiday parties. When the virus clears and we can finally leave our houses, let’s make a point to break those rules. Wear a sequined top to Sunday brunch. Don a glittery blazer to your friend’s baby shower in May. Who made these rules anyway? Certainly not Marc Bolan.

Good afternoon, friends, lovers, and others.

Probably thinking about my next meal.

Welcome to the blog I’m always talking about starting. With a deadly virus taking over the world and social distancing being both responsible and so appealing, I decided to be productive.

(Okay, I took a long nap, browsed Poshmark for about 3 hours, and started the new Netflix series “100 Humans” first, but I’m here now.)

My name is Ash, and for roughly 29 years, I’ve been wearing clothes.

1994, looking very much like an ad for UOBaby

My (saint/badass/iphone photographer) mom says I started picking out my own outfits when I was 2, and I still don’t like being told what to wear (looking at you, ageist society). Fashion is my favorite form of self-expression, like I’m gonna let anyone else dictate it.

It was 1997 when I first made the connection between music and fashion (Spice Girls, anyone?), and that has been the biggest influence on my style. From what I wear to concerts to the music that inspires me every day, I want this blog to connect music, fashion, and the people who live on that intersection.

This is a s h.
